Mark Friedlander’s sculptural practice is founded in a contemporary art workshop ecology that supports an attentiveness to the possibilities of materials and their associated processes. Friedlander’s techne across media is an artistic resource for interrogating the conceptual potentials of objects-in-activity and materials-in-process. Interrelationships recur throughout works: between fabricated object and photographic image, the bodily engagement of viewing, and the social act of making. As exhibitions, each project layers moments of curiosity by constructing schema in which situated objects are revealed to the viewer through a dynamic exploration.

Mark Friedlander is currently undertaking his PhD at the Faculty of Fine Art and Music, University of Melbourne.
